My approach is informed by training in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion, mindfulness and positive psychology.

I completed my clinical training a little later in life having previously worked in project and business administration and management for twenty years. I have also worked in organisational development and learning and adult education. I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. I’m a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists, Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association (ANZICA), and I am on the New Zealand executive committee of the Australasian Sleep Association.

All of my studies were completed at Massey University including a Bachelor in Health Science (first class Honours), a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Public Health which combined the disciplines of psychology and sleep and circadian science. My research investigated sleep in pregnancy and after birth and links with maternal mental health. I also developed and trialled a sleep education programme for first time mums and their babies.

Having worked in a fertility clinic for a number of years, I understand the many challenges people face in their hopes to become a parent. I have experience supporting people through fertility pathways, from beginning to end, including surrogacy, donor conception, single by choice or circumstance, Rainbow/LGBTQ+ families and those affected by grief and loss.

I have been involved in perinatal education for over 30 years. I’ve contributed to sleep education (including website and app content) for Te Hiringa Hauora (HPA), Plunket/Whānau āwhina, Hāpai te Hauora, Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Aotearoa (PADA), Parents Centres New Zealand and numerous DHB teams including community and maternal mental health.
